Reflection: How I Though How We Did In 2008

Finally the Year Book 2008 is out, now I can release my "master piece". haha. *Kembang*

Great food and superb year book by the way people!! Keep it up!!!

It is the time of the year. The time of the year where floorball training is force to cancel. The time of the year where Pei Li (this time around Tania also) will keep pester about my opinion for year end reviews of certain players. This is also the time where I have to crack my heard amidst of all the work and club issues for this article.

Year 2008. Looking back at it, a lot had happened. Well, it is expected in floorball anyway, because it is happening! People come people go. Games won games lost. Issues aroused issues solved. So many things to talk about, I am seriously in trouble deciding on what to start with!

We need to start somewhere anyways. OK. Let’s start with some review of all the tournaments.

We started of the year with a 3-on-3 Floorball Challenge organized by Contact Sports in January. It was sort of an appetizer on how yummy and exciting floorball will be for the rest of the year. We decided to go easy on this by sending as many teams as possible, including some first timers for a taste of competitive floorball. All didn’t fare really well except for the ladies team, (FH)² which went all the way but stumbled in the final. At the end of the day, everybody had fun and it was a good experience for the beginners. Personally it was a good platform and opportunity for me as a coach to obverse all my players at the start of the year and evaluate what we can do in the coming months to improved as a team.

Then came the most prestigious and important event of the year. The newly reformatted Penang Floorball League (PFL) 2008. This year, for the first time it was divided into 2 divisions with Frontliners sending one team each for both divisions, Spartans for D1 and Torjans for D2. Final standings, 3rd place out of 4 teams for Spartans who blew up the chance of securing sliver by gifting Minden Unihawks their first and only win of the season. Torjans ended up last out of 4 teams with a lot of positive points considering competing with very strong opponents.

Spartans proved to be rather fit playing with a hit and run style by outpacing the opponents in counter attacks which on another point of view indicates a lack of overall floorball sense and tactical awareness which will need a lot of work to improve. Trojans who were relatively new to the game performed with tremendous effort and really boils my blood imagining how good they will be in the future if they continue training with consistency!

The biggest revelation of the league for me was the Spartan “What is your profession” cheer which really send chills down through my spines. Creepy but intimidating and adrenaline pumping. We should register it as our trademark!

Followed up was the biggest event of the year, Youthwave Floorball Challenge. I rate it the biggest because it is the biggest, with the amount of participants overwhelming PFL, especially after a change in format to a 4 aside game excluding goalkeepers to encourage participation. 4 teams participated and I supposed everybody had fun as the “no-pressure-go-have-fun” policy was implied. Both men’s team qualified through the knock out stages. Renegades lost in the Quarters while Revelution’s run ended in the Semis. Inferno ladies fought all the way but failed to qualified whereas Fury went all the way and emerged victorious as champions retaining the Crown in the ladies category won by Frontliners as well in the previous year. Well yet again, floorball movement was lacking but the positive point is that our ladies are quite competitive and should be further expanded to retain the dominance in Penang Floorball scene. More recruitment girls!!

June we had a one of its kind tournament organized by Contact Sports, “Play in a Team, Play for Yourself” (PTPY). Pei Li took gold for the ladies with her usual tough play amongst the girls while another player that really shined on that weekend was Kenny. Although ended up empty handed, Kenny banged in a bag full of goals, including a hattrick on way. And since then has became part of the core for the senior team. Bright future ahead my friend.

The last competitive outing of the year was in September where Frontliners participated in the Z’Liners-PFA Floorball Challenge 2008. The tournament was a joint venture event organized by Frontliners & Ztec 8cers under the support and assistance of Penang Floorball Association (PFA). On the management level, it was a great experience for Jason and I as it really gave a taste of the hardship and headaches as organizers and also the satisfaction that comes with it.

Participation wise, Frontliners push for all fronts, F-Jr. for the juniors, Fury & Inferno (again) for the ladies and Spartan & 300 for the mens. F-Jr. ended up 6th out of 8 teams and it was a first time for the juniors playing together as a team. Pretty messy but energetic plays, rather encouraging as it was a first step to establish a full juniors team for the club. More recruitment and practice is definitely needed. As for debutant team manager Tania, observe and learn from the best, our CEO Mr. Jason, and be prepared for more opportunities in the future!

The ladies, some last minutes pull out was a real draw back as both Fury and Inferno struggled to qualify from the group stage, which in the end led to a small derby fighting for 5th placing. That encounter Fury with the more experience players came out top. Pei Li and Sonia did pretty well leading their teams respectively with Pei Li bagging 5 goals while Sonia’s rise just shown how much she has progressed since joining us. In Sonia’s case, it was just too bad her team mates were not regulars although I though some have pretty good potential. Can ajak them come Sonia, form full girls team is in the club’s book as well.

The Open was held the week after the Juniors cum Ladies, participated by Spartans and 300, our rename Frontliners Junior team. Spartans although expected to qualify, unexpectedly went all the way to the final until a penalty shoot-out lose halted their journey in a slight sour note, a sliver. Some good plays although still much more to the hit and run style, undermining the failure to turn the team around yet. The highlight was the superb goalkeeping of our “Kungfu Spartaness”, Sharron who saved numerous penalties and a wonder shot by Sanjeevan against the Henri-Toivoneime-Wannabe Linken which was dubbed unsavable by the man himself. 300 teamed up with Juniors, were sent merely for more competitive exposure came really close to qualifying but stumble at the last hurdle in a thought –to-be-won match.

Final verdict, both teams did well without the guidance of senior/regular leaders like myself and Jason, but there are definitely still a lot of room for improvements. As the game for 300, it shows that mental strength is still largely lacking amongst the players. Well, next time next try I guess.

Along came the problems and the problem came along. Having such diverse group of players, the club overall progress was and still is hindered by the constant turnover of personnel. Some just vanished into thin air; some just go “Chipsmore-ing”, deciding to show up whenever they please; some due to unavoidable circumstances.

Some of the most notable lost of personnel during the year include Lavinia, leaving for Sabah for studies. What bad luck of us for her not getting USM. A lost of not only a rising, tough defender but also a lost of a young adult to be part of the management team. Just imaging how many extra people I can avoid fetch with her car! Now an establish star in across the South China Sea with Nomads. Keep it up!

Brought in by Nick, Kenny who has rapidly moved up the ranks and recently secured a trail in the state team will be leaving us to further his studies in KL. A huge blow to our plans. Nick although preferably not, might follow his good friend’s footsteps next June/July.

Whereas old guards like Megan and Sanjeevan was a real disappointment as the duo constantly went MIA for various and no reason. The hopes of building up from beginning of the year’s PFL were severely affected!

People come, people go. The encouraging point from all this was to be grateful and encourage to see new blood joining like Lawren and gang, which I hope their relationship will help out in the progress and definitely to watch out in the future. Su Rong who was random recruit by Jason has also shown signs of a deadly fox in the box and has attracted favourable comments from the state coach himself. Juniors like Kyle and Gabriel looks bright and will provide Julian some competition and peer pressure. Definitely good to add numbers to the Junior team.

It is frustrating at times with all the turnover as progressive training program can not be conduct as the players keep renewing and so does the drills which constantly have to be kept to the basic. But life goes on, no point whining, we will just have to make due of what we have and keep who ever we have. The club will have to keep educating the players the importance of retention and that to help the club to help improve them is a must for all to progress.

Training wise, the focus have been constantly revolving around Passing, Movement and Shooting since I was handed the Senior Coach role as the team play was severely lacking and obvious during our run in PFL. Thus a lot of passing has been done; drills involving PMS was always on the menu and the drills were rather repetitive because the progress was slow. Certain issues was noted after looking back at the year, notably the constant limited space due to players of different levels training together and limit spaces for drills while we split. The availability of the indoor venue was also a drawback but unavoidable.

As to counter the issues, the coming year, well more like this coming week, the training will be split and with much hope, I am looking forward to the split. With the availability of a whole court, both groups will gain more from the drills and the peers of similar level. As for the venue, the club has been and will continue to look out for possible indoor alternative and also to get innovative in training means while force to go outdoors. So, look forward for 2009’s training people!!

In a nut shell, the year had been filled with new experience and old problems. Turnover problems is of priority but will be a tough nut to crack because it consist of unavoidable and uncontrollable factors, the best we can hope for is for all to unite as a family, keep ourselves tight and committee. With a cohesive unit, progress will definitely come as the experience will be cumulative where new experience and knowledge are build on older ones. Therefore, to all Frontliners, like look forward for a better year ahead and savior every second of floorball you can get!!! Eat, breath and live floorball!!!

*Walao. This is super long. Like SPM essay. Haha.

APAC 2008: Most Favourite One Liners(Hangover)

*This post is for FUN only and personnel involved are to view at own discretion. Don't get pissed off or vomit blood k? HAHA.

Most Favourite One Liner. The idea came while we were hanging out in Chris & Merv's room watching Australian Channels showing "100 Most Favourite Movie One Liners".

Back in Malaysia, there were so many memorable moments to recall and remember, but instead of writing an essay, I prefer to remember them in those "One Liners".

So, after 2 months, it's kinda annoying looking at it already, so I decided to end it. Well, after counting the miserable 22 votes, which I myself voted 3 to 4 times from different PCs, "Chui Pui Tia" ran out as the undisputed Most Favourite!!

"Chui Pui Tia". A direct translation from Hokkien slang, Manglish: "Find skin pain.", which basically means getting yourself into trouble, making oneself the laughing/mocking material of all.

Used on an "Oliver" or a "Termin" answering Coach "The One" Edward's "difficult" question without reasonable effort of brainstorming and common sense. Classic example: Oliver; Termin.

Verdict:
"Best of the best!" Kuan Yang
"Original" Chris Koh

Second in the running. "Bawa-bawa lagi? Tembak lah." A Malay sentence which in Manglish: "Bring bring somemore? Shoot lah". This one of probably usable in a sports senario where you get to dribble the ball.

Used on the joker who likes to dribble dribble around and loses the ball than shoot the goal and try to finish it. Classic example: the one and only Mamak.

Thrid place, we have a tie. "Faking selfish." an Australian pronounciation of "Fucking selfish." Applied on a bunch of Malaysians gossiping/ borak'ing in a room beside a grumpy, fat Aussie who claims that "some people actually need to work" while happily waking up around 12pm. Crap~

"We are Aussies"
"Mighty mighty Aussies."
"If you can't hear us."
"We'll shout louder!"
"Aussie!"
"Oi!"
"Aussie!"
"Oi!"
"Aussie Aussie Aussie!!"
"Oi Oi Oi!!"
That says it all. Instead, I think Abo Merv came out with a better one:
"We are Indians,
Hairy hairy Indians,
If you can't see us,
Come and shave us."
Classic!! HAHAHA... For full laughter effect, say it with the typical Indian slang with some head movement. Do we have it in the video Oli?

The rest? Didn't garnered any votes. Both refer to a certain individual. (Guys I promise you, you are going to get famous after this. Haha. Or not! Who cares, I'm having fun.)

With one vote, "How come all Malaysian looks like Chan Ming Hwee?" is second versed of "How come all Koreans look like Park Ji Sung?". It all started on a chilly winter at Perth, walking down the pavement when we crossed shoulder with the Kimchi Clan when Ming Hwee made a what I call a "Chui Pui Tian"(put it in good use. XD) statement "How come all Koreans look so @#$y? All look like Park Ji Sung." And James out of no where "Eh, I tell you har, maybe they also feel the same, how come all Malaysian looks like Chan Ming Hwee..." Burst of laughter.
Hahahahahahahahaha...
It sounds lame now, not funny anymore. Crap~

And finally, a nice zero for "Eh, I look like Korean ah?". A statement of vanity, and who else other than.... TM. OK la, you quite fair la, and you look OK with the specs(which gets cheaper and cheaper and cheaper down the streets of Perth City. HAHA.), and we did say that you look like one, but that doesn't mean we really mean it. HAHA. Quit repeating the question which forces us to keep lying. Poor Oli not only is forced to be the nice mirror-mirror-on-the wall, "Yes, you look like Korean." and also to endure him occupying the only mirror in the room. Two vains one mirror. How suffering. Haha.

Final result:
1st - "Chui Pui Tia." = 13 votes
2nd - "Bawa-bawa lagi? Tembak lah." = 4 votes
3rd/4th - "Faking selfish." & "Aussie Aussie Aussie." = 2 votes
5th - "How come all Malaysians look like Chan Ming Hwee." = 1 votes
6th - "Eh, I look like Korean ah?" = 0 votes

In the end, it turn out to be quite an essay. Crap~

The Bridge Run

The Bridge Run.
25km for the second time.

Didn't lose any sleep about it,in fact I was reluctant to crawl up from the bed.
Chris on the other hand was sleepless.
Memorising the route, the slope and strategizing.

Objective:
Reach PW's tolls without stopping.
Finish by 3 hours.

Sitting the bus?
Sure won't sit wan la.
Walk whole course can out walk the bus some more.
haha...

Finish by 2hours 30mins?
Er...
Er...
......

Experiences gained?
Lessons learned?
Thoughts thought?

People are vain.
They like to pose.
The flow was like snails at the starting line.
Crap~

Keeping to the left applies to all slow moving objects,
including you, you and YOU!!
But then, Malaysian don't like to follow rules, they prefer to cut queue.
That's the trend la.

Power gel sucks.
Looks cool holding it, like pro.
Label says "strawberry and banana."
Taste bud says "yucks and sucks."
Hand says "throw and dump."
Throat says "dry and die."
Mind says "vain and dumb."
Crap~

Power gel might be good.
The next few KM after the my self-torture was a breeze through.
Maybe I on form la. Nothing to do with Power Gel. *kembang*

Never stop while running.
First you feel light, dizzy and sleepy.
Then you feel heavy, tight and lazy.
Lost of momentum.
But don't stop how to get water?
Crap~

Water taste...
Nice?
Brilliant?
Superb?
Beyond verbal expression!!
Best liquid ever!!
A class of its own!!

Ice water?
Kills!
A cup of it and came along the problems.
Stomach aching.
Feels like shitting.
Crap~

Dreaming is a good dose of distraction.
To forget the weariness and pain, DREAM! XD
"Scoring the equliser in APAC medal match. Going into sudden death. Face off. Wins the face off, nutmeg the centre, shield the ball, drag, drag, release. top corner, keeper helpless. GOALLLL!!! celebrate like hell!!"
Eh, wake up la, not even half way through the course.
Crap~

The human mind is weak.
Upon achieving primary objective, signs of weakness surfaces.
"Eh, still can? Wanna walk kah?"
"We start walking at the sign there then run again later."

When start walking, you keep walking.
You want to run but you walk.
You want to run but you pain.
You want to run but cramp.
You want to run but all in vain.
You walk. I walk. We walk.
And walk and walk and walk.
Crap~

Oasis exists here.
On top of the slope,
100 Plus and mineral water abundance.
HEAVEN wei~
So syok.
Drinking is never so satisfying.

"Milo is the BOMB!" by Christopher Koh.
It really was.

Sacrifice. Chapter: Going Slow.

Hands were itching as I step hard on my accelerator, time is running out. 6.55pm.
Dying to scratch the with my latest luxury purchase, the Curve.

Mana tau...
Potong steam.
Singapore fellas ppk, the supposed-to-make-my-day friendly postpone to December.
Haiz...

Back to routine.
Drills.
Talk.
Drills.
Suicide.
Talk.
Play.
Physical.

Up until now, we have been doing the running alone.
We can time our pace, push ourselves,
or give up easily.

This week, while the girls push the car, we have to settle for an Indian Run aka Dragon Run.

For Chris, it was a dream come true.
Well, maybe not his dream but something he was been looking forward to do. haha.

Rules:
5 in a team.
The last person to sprint to take the lead.
Each team have to finished 15 laps with every person at least having 15 leads.
No time limit.

Running in a team is a whole different scenario.
Each individual is at a different level.
To fit all 5 into a team and finish the exercise all together needs communication, determination and humility.
The fast & strong have to accommodate for the slow & struggling.
You have to sacrifice for the team. Like what the Coach said while debriefing.

It is a tough job.
First, you have to strategised,
Who to lead, who to tail.
Have to change a few leads to settle with some one who knows how to control his pace and wait for his team mates.
The tail? just keep the aggressively fast fellas behind and teach them a lesson of "slow". haha.

The hardest part is to keep everyone in the team.
Controlling the fast,
"Slow. Slow."
"Maintain!"

Pushing the slow,
"One, two. One, two"
"Keep the feet going, slow but bigger pace."

Fighting the pain,
"Pain is nothing. Stop only if you cramp."
"Don't stop. Move your legs."

In the end, we managed to finish the exercise.
Dead last.
But we finish it as a team. All five.
*Satisfied*

I feel the exercise, like what the Coach mentioned during debrief, it is more of a mental training.
Running alone is to push yourself mentally to break your limit, keep going while your mind tells you to stop.
Running together, for the fast is to control yourself and run for the team. It is not so much of pushing to finish it fast but to push your weaker team mates. For the slow is to push yourself to not drag the team down. It's a two way thing.

Well, this is the first for many to come.
As said by the Coach, we'll really be tested when time limit is applied and every minute passed with require extra "exercise".

Can we cope and suffer for you team mates??
I think we can,
I hope we can,
I believe we can.

Just to share with you some quotes cum philosophy from the great Phil Jackson which I strongly believe in:

"Good teams become great ones when the members trust each other enough to surrender the Me for the We."

"The strength of the team is each individuals, the strength of each individual is the team"

Time limit?
Bring it on!!
(Talk big. Might get killed in the process. XD)

Run Wei~

Tuesday.

Failed.
First time in state training, I couldn't complete the physical training. Haiz...

Stand in coach, Sammy(XD) aka SuperSam treat us with an add on of Coach Ed's running exercise with 20 pump jumps for every lap. A total of 10 laps.

You are thinking 30 of star jump vs 20 pump jump, should be a discount right?
NO!! It is hell lot more straining. Pushing your whole body weight down, behind and up, it is killing the thigh. Smart Sam, typical Mega Sales tactic, give you 50% discount but have to buy 2 to get it. Sweat.

So, 7th lap into the the run, I can barely finish 5 jumps in a row and my legs became shaky after junps.

What to do?
Gave up 10 jumps and continue with the run.
And opted to run on the outside to prevent from falling into the drain when my legs shut downs. haha.

This is the toughest ever since the introduction of this "mental strength training" session.

Wednesday.

Legs pain.
Every step reminds me of the unfinished run & the Bridge Run form cum $$$ handed over to Chris.
Ok la!
Today no outside audit, must go run!!(haven't run since the post of the same title. Sweat...)

6.00pm.
Work not done.
Push...

6.30pm
Work still not done.
... ...
Don't care already la..
Ciao!

7.00pm
Change, shoe on.
Lets go.
20 laps.

huff puff huff puff.
5 rounds. (wah dog shit. *avoid*)
*
*
*
10 rounds. (wah so long...)
*
*
*
15 rounds(getting dark, tired, still pushing but forgot to avoid dog shit)
*
*
*
20...

Yes, first time finish 20 laps after so much talk.

Constant struggling in state training,
have been telling myself must do self training,
must go run ,
but every evening,
turn on PC,
butt stuck on the chair,
end of story.

Bought an pair of ASICS running shoe by mistake,
have been telling myself to make the mistake worthwhile,
must go run,
but same story lar...
burning 260 for nothing.

Finally, my debut.
Because?
Don't wanna mempersiasuikan myself on that day mar..
At least must keep up with Chris. haha.
Lets keep the momentum going!

Must go run!!!
(declaring it for the X-th time, last minute stuffs, not very hopeful wei~)

Emo Week: Full of Temptations(Crap~)

Pissed off.

Must Go Run!

Trained or untrained.

I'm definitely the later in terms of stamina & endurance which the coach has made it the main theme for the term for the senior in state training.

Introducing the package for the day:
1. 4 laps of suicide sprints for 3 intervals of 20 seconds
2. following with 15-20 laps around Dalat's field(approximately 4.5+ km) in 20 minutes with sprints on the straight path of the course.
3. and ending with another 4 laps of suicide sprints for 4 intervals of 20 seconds.

Not to mention the scrapping of game play for us to accomadate the "Package". Jo-wyee was particularly upset.(Mental tak kuat! XD)

After managing to regulate my breath during last week's 20-lap run, I was eager to try it out this time around.

Guess what, I managed to finish 15 laps within the time. Thanks to the hellish experience last week, and the presence of Chris running side by side at a similar pace(Chris also slow lar. haha)

Have to specially mention Chris here cuz with this joker running beside me. He was my motivation. Maintaining pace with star defender is a feat itself k? Hehe... Thanks a lot bro!

That was not end of story, the coach wasn't ready to let us rest our laurels. As the game ended around 9 30pm, the seniors were order to be on the line , suicide sprints. Some more?! Crap~

I was expecting my legs to be heavy and a lap of these would have killed me. Instead to my astonishment, I managed to survive 3 laps without a cramp and with reasonable speed as well. But when the unexpected 4th lap came, it was a killer!!(now we know why they are also called killers!) Body felt like wall about to crumble and catching my breath like a fish out of water.

Conclusion: had I improved over the past week after able to regulate my breathing or it is merely because we didn't play any games like last week and we simple did less laps?

Hard to say. Both I guess. Maybe it was due to the mental of mind(mental dah dikuatkan) and with the body on a "flow" after the 15 lap run?

I believe many had experience it when you execute endurance training. The starting laps were always the hardest but as it goes on you hit a point where suddenly everything feels... good? And you just feel that you can keep on going and going. Yeah I think this is it.

But to really prove the improvement, more training will be a necessity which I clearly understands and have been pushing myself for consistent training at home. However, you know la~ The mind is weak without "the one" pushing. (Mental tak kuat!) What a lame excuse.

Must kuatkan Mental!

Must go run!

Must go run!!

Die die must to run!!!

For the sake of my survival in APAC(or any other games in the future) or else prepared to get slaughtered!!! I'm sick of it! Therefore, MUST GO RUN~!

p/s: this is what my brain can crack lar. limited, uninspiring and crappy. can't wait to read your version. XD

Deja vu, thats the word and this is the incident that pop out of my mind when we had the exhibition match during Z'Liners Challenge: APAC Organisers, Referees, Coaches and some of their cha bo national players vs Knocked-out team: Team Malaysia. Crap~

Crap it was.

Came late. (as we jumble up the time with some other event.)

No goalie suit. (have to borrow from the host.)

Kena sabo by James. (Chindian got pretty mad. Emo guy ma, what to do?)

Out numbered. (as the others got confused with some earlier decision making.)

Score? Lets just forget about it. Cuz its a friendly and we got beaten and I forgot the score or maybe i didn't want to remember. Too embarrassing...

IFF big shot with The One

Well, as for the rest of the world, game on.

Singapore beat Korea again in the semis. While the Aussie Seniors narrowly beat their Juniors.

3rd/4th placing, U19 vs Koreas. It was a thrilling match as the score line was pretty tight. Korea lead for most of the period, concede 2 in quick succession in the third period but fought back with a crucial equaliser and then ended the contest with a 11 second sudden death goal(by that #5). The are one tough nut to crack.

The Kimchi-do of showing gratitute.

The final showdown was Singapore agianst Australia. With Singapore as the stong favourites having won 2 finals in a row coming into the game. It was a hard match but it was mostly Singapore all the way with their stong build up play and lethal finishing as the Australia fail to put several curcial chances into the net. Orkids thriumph 5-3.

Bonus Commentary: The All Star Team
Goalie: Koreans flamboyant #1 Lee Young June, likes to shrug his shoulder everytime he saves. A what I like to call "Is-that-the-best-you-can-do" challenge pose.

Defenders: Anthony Boteler the playmaker defender of Aus, always at the right place at the right time. And #2 Kim Sang Ki of Korea. Don't be fooled by his height! He might be short but he is damn fast and he'll buldoze you like nobody's business. Kim, you have my vote.

Centre: Captain Jonathon Veron of Aus. Quick, pacey feet. More of a forward than a centre if you ask me.

Forwards: Ahmad Afzal & Abdul Hafiz of Singapore. The brothers combo. Both fast, thin but tough. Hafiz the elder being the more flamboyant one, trying tricks and airhooks while the younger Afzal is more effective with is direct play. Their one touch play is so mesmerizing, and very deadly if you are not focus!

27th Aug - Operation Kimchi

Do or die. Judgment day. 1200, Korea vs Malaysia. Both teams with straight 3 loses, a 4th one means: bye bye go home shake legs. Winners takes all!!

Woke up in the morning, feeling fresh and fire up after 3 games, 3 loses and 3 trashings.
"Come on. Our fortune can't be take bad?"
"Well maybe were totally lousy and plain lucky that the score didn't break to 20?"

IMG_4483
We can win. We gotta win. We must WIN!!
(We didn't win... T_T)

Well, Malaysia got off to a good start. Scored a goal. Defended the lead for the whole of first period. The score line was a great achievement considering that we concede at least 3-5 goals in the first 20 minutes in previous games.

However, taking into account the fact that the Koreans were playing half press compared to the others that full pressed and the difference in the level of technique and tactical discipline of the other teams, the score was nothing to be brag about.

In fact, we should have taken advantage of the space allowed and finished off the chances, or we would live to regret. And we did...

Taking the lead & celebrating for one last time...

IMG_4501
#10 missing a glorious chance.
"Still young lar."

Our lack of finished turned and punished us.

Second period. Face off. Goal.

#5. I'll never forget #5(as against Aussie U19 in the Bronze medal match, he score another goal, 11 seconds into sudden death). Few seconds into the game, the Koreans equalised. All the hard work erased.

Needing to win the game to qualify for the semis, it turn into an end to end game with both teams coming out to take the lead. The Koreans to advantage of the first goal, built on the momentum and got the second as we were caught of the heels by their swift counter attacking. We had our own chances but with lousy finishings and missing a penalty, who to blame but ourselves??

IMG_4510
"Alamak?!?!"
Penalty saved by All Star Goalie

Coming out of the third the Koreas pressed as if they didn't used any energy during the first two as they came on us hard and strong. The defensive started to crumble as goals creep in slowly one by one.We just couldn't cope with the constant pestering of the Koreas at and their pacey attackings.

In the last moments with our last throw of dice, we push up high hoping for a miracle and awarded the "Kimchi-mers" free passage to our goal. 1-5. We are shaking legs for the next 3 days...
