I am secure.

I am secure.
Am I secure?

To compromised?
To embrace adversity?

To stay firm?
To sway away?

Give an inch?
Unmoved?

Steeled heart, crunching knuckles.
The heat so needs some channeling.

One last time, I say.
And then, F off I say.

I am secure...

I Feel Like An Old Man

I feel like an old man.

It has been a day since the grueling 21km PBIM 09, what a disappointing campaign. The primary objective was to run non-stopping until the turn like last year. This year was much shorter, 21 compared to 25, shouldn't be a problem.

It felt good after the first 10 mins and I kept on myself by breaking out from our pack of 3(Chris and Merv), but on the way up the slope, the knee starts to kick in, alerting my pain sensory. Crap. Gave in when I hit the water station on top, chilled as I walked for 200m before restarting the engine, catching up with the pack again as they overtook me while I halted.

The pain reoccurred and was getting severe. Crap. I must at least finished the first half before I stop again, I told myself. Push on and endured the pain until we arrived at the next water station and that's the end of my Bridge Run...

I didn't wanted to give up so easily at first, so I executed plan B, which was walk and run. However, I only managed to survive for 2 laps, before the pain was to much to bare as I hit 15km. Damn.

There is no way I am going to sit the bus!!
I was seriously annoyed and disappointed but my knees just seems dead. I couldn't even walk at a fast pace as any tweaking or bending on the knee would cause me hellish pain.

Finally, after nearly 2 hours of leg dragging, I managed to finished the run, still below 3 hours. Nothing worth celebrating. The much anticipated free flow Milo and 100plus just seems tasteless, damn potong steam. haiz...

Back home, all those little little routine never seems so troublesome before. Getting out of the car, changing cloths, standing up fromt the chair. Every little minor movement on the knee stuns me for a few second. Even changing body positions while sleeping makes me think twice (reminds me of my previous sun burn) Going up the stairs is by far the worst!!!

F! I feel like an old man.

Probably need to go see the doctor...

What A Week!! Sienz...

A week of misfortune, suffering and despair...

First was the constant thought of survivability for the coming extra state training. Lacking of discipline in pushing myself to run every evening after work hasn't been as fruitful as I like too. Stress for the whole week.

Saturday
Mana tau, woke up late the next morning and did a near Initial-D drive up Balik Pulau, and had to clear up the stomach before suiting up for training. Super late.

Coach Ed's persistent in us delivering good passes as well as receiving was seriously a real challenge. Understanding the mechanism of the drill, do it with pace and making accurate passes via delicate anticipation and still fearing the wrath of continuously adding on push-ups for mis-passes ( I think I hit 60-80), 3 hours seemed like a life time.

At last, the one moment of satisfaction and relief as we headed out for the long forgotten taste of Balik Pulau's Laksa Lemak!!! ^^

Supposed to head out to Chris's place for a rest but decided otherwise last minutes due to inconvinience and insufficient time for resting anyways. Therefore, helped out in refereeing FireBRANDS and suffered another unusual blow. A slight sore on the knee.

Was a little fearful because you might never know whether the ligament was injured, thankfully after training the pain wore off and hopefully it stays that way!! But not before going through a hellish training.

Training was hell!
8 players on full court doing tactical runs, couldn't even run properly due to fatigue and the sore knee which at times render my leg useless as if it was already dead. Huffed and puffed and dragged the physical body through the training until the "Big Thing"(Quote Coach Ed).

3 versus 3 on a rearrange court. Loses to be awarded the honor to do 50 push-ups. Push hard for the final lap as I refusal to receive the "glory".

Played hard but fell harder.
First the left calf gave way. Ouch! Got up, pushed again.
We were on the losing side and the opponent kept attacking, refused to gave in and got sliced near the down under by Jo-Wyee's shot... OUCH!!! and stunned for 2 seconds. What the... Pushed on.
Finally, it was the left calf's turn to call it a day as well and what a place to choose, near the boards. Ouch Ouch Ouch!!

Final whistle... 50 up downs awaits. Crap~

Sunday
Tired, painful, powerless, soreness............
I was a live corpse. Climbing up the from the bed and up stairs became the challenge of the day.
Staying awake was challenge number 2 as I couldn't stay up for half and hour without feeling sleepy.
Slept after breakfast, slept after lunch.

After dinner, the much anticipated Derby of England.
Crappy stuffs from Man U, lack of drive and quality in the final ball. Got caught on the counter and Ferdinand once again got outpaced by the striker.
And Mum kept mocking from behind, tak boleh tahan, felt like giving her a hairdryer!!! Sabar......
Vidic sent off for the 3rd time against Liverpool while Mascherano followed suit for the 2nd time. What a week!!

The Floorballer and The Sun

Once upon a time in, in mid September, four Floorballers from Penang went to KK's Pulau Manukan. Enjoying the cooling breeze and random fishes and corals while snorkeling.

As time ticks away, they got bored and tired and hungry and they were thinking of Burger King, which is a rare delicacy back home. So they decided on a bet amongst themselves that whoever catches a fish with their bare hands first, will be treated like a King with all the Burgers the other three can afford.

As they set out for their quest, creativity came pouring.
They meditated like monks and striked when the fish swam close.
They took of their cloths and tried to scoop the fish.
They even once forgo their differences and worked together as the circle the fish.

Hours of sun bathing and hand piecing, they got bored and tired and hungry and they were thinking of getting the nearest random food and they gave up.

Fair back

Little did they know that the Sun who were fond of the fishes was furious at their constant harassing of the Sun's beloved pets. As a punishment, the Sun decided ti shower them with his homemade curse. As the Sun was about to lay down his curse, one of the Floorballer's fair back was particularly irritating as it reflected the Sun's ray which was his pride. And so the Sun forgot of the other three and gave that Floorballer the full blast of the Sun Curse.

and The Sun

By the time they got home, even under the roof and in a cooling air-conditioned room, the Floorballer's RED back started felt hot and painful. Only showers in the bath room could relieve the pain but when it was time to put on the cloths again, slow twitching of the fabric onto the skin was pure torture.

As they set out for the long awaited Burger King, he realised that he could not lay his back down on any object, it was painful.

The Sun was giggling evilly as he sets and while he was waving his magic on the other side of the sphere, the Floorballer struggled in his bed to find peace. The back pain was to much to endured which forces him to sleep on his chest which was also uncomfortable which he would then turn to his back, suffering another series of pain before biting his teeth and slept with his side.

For the next few days, he was trapped in the spiral of pain. The slightest of touches or a little spark of sun ray was the worlds' worst pain. Whether is it the back sit of the car or the chair, when walking down the streets, when changing clothes, especially when doing shoulder pushing in a Floorball clinic. His back was bloody red and had transformed into a lobster.

Luckily, as days go by, to his relieve, the pain started to wear off and he was thankful for the Sun's mercy. The Sun however, was not as forgiving as he thought and was waiting to enjoy to see the Floorballer suffer the curse's side effects.

The Floorballer's skin had now turned black and his friends can barely recognised him. On top of that, his skin is constantly falling off in to shreds leaving a mess everywhere. His room needed regular sweeping more that ever as the floor was dominated by the white dead skins and whenever he changed his cloths, piles of whites will drop down. The second stage of the curse has evolved him from a lobster to a snake.

Finally, the skin changing process halted after a week. However, he is no long the fair back he used to be. He is now... not so fair back and has vowed to defeat the Sun and catch fish with his bare hands the next time he heads to the island.

"I will defeat you!!!"

The End.

it's lame. I know...

APAC 2009: Hangover Part 3 - Long Lost Vids

Been organising my digi cam's memory card and guess what?
I dug out some vids which I took when we were in Pyeongtaek, Korea. Damn, really brings back all the mouth watering smell of bulgogi and the echoing in my ears. *Gee Gee Gee Gee Baby Baby* ^^

Anyway, after struggling to get myself to copy the vids to my pc and struggle again to keep it on for a couple of nights to upload it...
Here I present you...
4 vids from Korea APAC 2009!

The main purposed was of taking the vids bring back some quality stuffs to study back home. Its just such a joy to watch how the better teams play, so much fluidity in the movement of the ball and positions, offensive and defensive. Hopefully it will make me a better player. ^^

The other reason was to actually use it as a coaching material in club training but I guess it was a little too troublesome to bring all the gear over to RC. Plus, the players still need a whole drilling in a whole lot of areas before they can see the hidden values of the vids. XD

Last but not least, to share it with all of you out there. Nothing beats having a view of some not too bad floorball on the net!

I will save some breath on the explanation so enjoy the power play vids!

Sucked in and stuck in the never ending period?

Ever since getting involved with club management, sourcing of players has always been an unavoidable issue. Luckily, with such a resourceful and persuasive manager, the problem often gets solved every now and then.

However, the root of the problem was never eliminated. Instead the short term solution promotes a kind of "take-in-for-granted-you-need me" mentality which at times disrupts the team unity and synergy. With that in mind, securing a school and taking it under the wing of the club has always been the main agenda, which finally in mid 2009... the mission was completed.

Now, with the school as the youth academy, influx of players will no longer be an issue. Or so we thought. Next on the list seriously is even complicated than rocket science.

Title of the experiment: Optimisation of Training Efficiency.
Variables to be taken account of:
1. length of training
2. court size
3. quantity
4. quality
5. focus of training

Seriously, is there any course to sign up for this? SOS wei~ ^^

When things don't go too well... headache.
When things go too well... also headache.

Good became too good.
Too good isn't really that good.

Problems require solutions.
Yet, solutions brings along new problems.

Ah.. What am I crapping about?
Why do I even burden myself with all this?
It has been 5-6 years since I was "conned" ^^ into holding the stick and whacking the ball. Recent coffee shop sessions has got me thinking.
Reality vs Floorball... Halt? Defer? Resume?

I do not have any Spiritual attachment or obligation like most, so why am I here?

Coincidentally, Chris's recent post really struck me. What am I playing for?
Sucked in and stuck in the never ending period?

It started of with personal development. The urge of testing your potential, to improve, to excel. Something which is never ending and constantly evolving new milestones to achieve. Then came a lot the kind of self satisfaction that maybe I can be good at this with a of little pride and ego as the stimulant. A reasonable amount of it and constantly keeping it in check is just the right kind of driving factor. Haha.

Then there is my passion for coaching I guess. Something which I discovered as I played Football Manager down the years. Although my favourite clubs is still Man Utd, while in other leagues I would pick Barcelona or Inter, they are just to complete for any further improvements. I often prefer to go for other mid table clubs which has groups of promising youngsters. 2001/02 Leeds was my favourite, then there is Parma(imagine the strike force of Gilardino and Adriano), Everton and the recent Tottenham with all the England U-21s. Applying it to Floorball, the sight of seeing the juniors playing, improving weekly and occasionally shines in tournaments is just sheer satisfaction.

The sense of loyalty too holds me firm in keep me stuck in the spiral of Floorball. I never thought that I had that with me before but at times, when I looked back how a reacted and felt on certain past or recent events, I guess I really despised disloyalty. Whether it is influenced, or subconsciously, I think I feel I owe the club, the people I follow and the people who followed. Grounded by loyalty, how troublesome. Haiz.

Yet, no matter what the reason, reality is still catching up. There is no denying it. Blending reality and passion... Another piece of rocket science to be solved.
Ah...... Draining
I guess I will just have to get some sleep, get my mind straight and think of another solution.
Life is just a circle of problem solving...
First training, then fitness, then reality la.
Crap~

It has been awhile

It has been awhile since I last posted...
The last one was posted in the midst of PFL 2009. (I wonder if we can still call it Penang Floorball League with the new ruling going around??)

Anyway, it was all hectic business after league. Mainly to follow up all the leftover assignments which was postponed to allowed me some extra driving minutes from work (BM) to the arena (BP). The fact that these leftover needs rushing to meet approaching deadlines really sucks.

More OT...

Was supposed to hand in a short review on the team's see saw journey in the league, but the work load was too draining making the temptation of post-work movie session even harder to overcome. Plus, with the short break from coaching, the whole body mind and soul seems to reject anything and everything to do with Floorball. To much dosage of the F-Drug and the body is starting to reject it.

Give more reasons to skip the blogging part - the sense of responsibility. The responsibility of blogging... The power and publicity of the WWW. Some small fry and turn into a big star or some tiny shit can get you into deep ship. In simple terms, look before you leap, think before you blog. It became quite a deep discussion after several controversy going around. (Lost? haha. Then you haven't been sensitive or so you haven't been privilege to be part of the gossip group. ^^)

In my terms, I call it tokkok la. But then, its pretty much true la. No matter the reason, publicity or for expression sake, lets not make enemies, so think thrice while you write. Crap, creating more work load for me, sienz. Don't write la.

Anyway, as you read the post, I am back!!
Pretty much I guess.

3 months is a hell long break, and am itching for some balls to smack, especially after the Sabah Trip with Team Unihoc. K, k, I will try, I said try and squeeze something out about the the trip. Try k? ^^

Plus October is around the corner. The hellish National Training. I must survive!! 4 months is a like a blink of an eye, APAC will be tougher being a qualifying year and the Sing's are carving to whack our asses after Korea. =.="

Must get fit ar... Haiz...

The worst of my problem is not the one on the body but rather the one on the mind. As seconds tick away, the nearer next years' league gets. I wonder whether I have enough juice for brain storm for the training drills, tactics etc etc. That aside, biggest prayer of all: everyone is on the same page! Save me all the man management crap.

Must get fit ar... Haiz...

Headaches...

Headaches....
3 down, 2 to go.

So far... so good lo.
so good that it's kinda too good to be true.

The headaches and concerns prior to the game, somehow solved.
With the help of additional blessing to us and probably accidental cursing to the other part, things seems to go pretty fine.

Yeah.
Good things do happen.
Yet, along came the bad ones as well.

Headaches...
The Bad, fatigue.
Tiring wei~
Work and lack sleep, driving 80+km, 40 min of intensity.
Crap~
Jason and co down.
Z-liticos settled.
Des Sam gone.
Chris and Sarah up next.
Final stop Ed and gang.

Sweating...
Can I last...

The Worse, absentees
We are surfing on high ground, hoping to achieve an extra mile and now hit by exams and holidays.

Sad case.

Headache.
Everyone is like a body part, how can the body function effectively without a limb.
Less people = more running + less substitution = fatigue = sure kena gao gao. Crap~
Lines, strategy, objective, all scraped, rethinked and reshuffled.

Headache...

The Worst, too much "FIRE"
The team is on fire, because the heart is on fire and raring to release it on court.
Not too bad.

Too much fire, blasted the head inside out, and now they think they are Cristiano Ronaldo.
Too much fire, blasted the backside, and burst them up into the space and they start floating happily up there.

Headache...

Have to walop they skull and turn the outside back in and have to spear them down so that they got the gravity feel back before the games.

Headache...

Get your head right and get your arse back down!!

Never, never never, never, ever
UNDERESTIMATE (capped, bolded, reded, largest font)
anybody!!!

Ok. - go running... =.="

Use the Calculator!! Part II

Curiosity.
A good thing?
Or a bad one?

Good cuz it shows one has the desire to understand further.
Bad cuz some ask just to ask, without any effort to do some simple self-processing first.

More importantly, comes the timing.
Ah yes.
When to ask is the key.

A good question can be a bad one when presented at a wrong time.
For instance, during a heated friendly…

Man, the intensity of the game has already gotten to you, you are trying your best to control your patience and frustrations have to endure and accept that your team is incomplete to compete with the opponent. Trying to come out with a solution for damage control and your players suddenly decide to get creative and shoot you some intelligent questions. Furthermore, backing them with some seriously brilliant arguments.

Tone was raised and irritation exposed, and answers given with huge aura membunuh...
So, here I am, not totally calm, at least calmer (impossible when you remind yourself of the incident), explaining with elaboration, fulfilling their curiosity, if they ever come across this post. And also for the great good of all those out there, who have the same curiosity and yet to find an acceptable explanations.

Oh, by the way, this is just me bursting out, no personal attack meant and acceptability is up to your own discretion.

A common scenario, your forward is constantly way too high at the opponent’s half to receive the defenders pass from your half. Ball intercepted – counter attacked.

Solution?
Request forward to drop down, at least close enough for the pass to reach.
That’s plain common sense right?
The reason?
The closer your are, the shorter distance for the ball to travel.
Other than the that, always get in front of the opponent.
What is the probability for an object to travel from point A to point B with obstacles in between?
Use your calculator!

The argument I get?
Further up front, shorter distance towards the goal, hence easier to take shot.
WTH?
No ball, no shot, no chance, no goal.
Simple.
Get the damn ball first, then only think about scoring.
It’s a process not a bypass…

At an almost similar scale, on the attacking half, the forward is drifting too far wide for the side pass to reach.

Solution?
Same.
Come closer to the strong side, more or less at the centre and again, try and get ahead of your marker.

Er…
Far wide free ma, nobody mark.

I would say it’s quite a valid point.
Yes, you will most probably be unmarked and unnoticed, yet even with Mika “Godlike” Kohonen delivering the ball personally to you, count.
2 to 3 bodies in front of you before the ball reaches you from 4 to 5 meters out, meaning the ball has to travel past how many pairs of legs, how many sticks, and what are the chances of it not getting intercepted?
Use your calculator!

This will work when:
You’re darn lucky, the ball happened to reach you when you happened to be there.
If not, your passer must damn good, so accurate he keeps finding the gaps, penetrating the obstacles.
Best is you have had zillions plus hours of repetitive training.
Or it’s a dream: 2 vs GK.

*slap slap*
Wake up.

The list gets longer…
The cause?
Lacking in brain activity?
Players just want to whack the ball, never wondering without the ball how to whack it?
They want to have the ball, never go figure how can I have a better chance of getting the ball?

Inability to adopt the fact that they are playing Floorball, not other sports(esp. football)?
Hello, please switch to BBF FM 102.26 and not Football FM 365.

A wide attacker is not a winger.
The job is not to run the flanks, beat the defender with speed or tricks and cross the ball.
The attacker in the centre is not a center forward.
The job is no to body check the centre half, hold the ball and wait for support or beat the offside trap or win a header.
That’s plain crazy.

The forward job description, like every other position is limitless.
Attacking the goal is just a general idea. General.
This applies to everything.
Techniques, tactics, set pieces, goalkeeping, blah blah blah…
Meaning there are infinite possibilities.
Flexibility and adaptability is crucial, and lacking…

Or maybe is the communication?
The inability to transfer the correct information in a proper manner at an appropriate time using the best channel?
Maybe I just like to blast out info, too much that it overloads their minds.
Like Matrix, downloaded to much floorball software into their P1 processor causing severe malfunction on court.

Or is it my crappy presentation, what they get is the movements of lips without understandable soundwave travelling into their ears, rendering the impulse sent to their brains uninterpretable?

Or something else?
Bombard me.
Enlighten me.

Dilemma

To play and not to coach?
To coach and not to play?
Or to not play and not coach?

Crap!!

Discovery should come up with a new series "The Hardest Job"
Wait.
Does it even count as a "job"?
What kind of a "job" is that? That doesn't pays?
Instead, it's more like coming out with your own money...
Without any sort of return.

Use The Calculator!!

So, how to you feel?

Frustrated.

Why?

Because...

Because?

*blah blah blah*
Because we shouldn't lose to them that much.

We shouldn't lose to them that much? What did you expect then?

Draw? Lose less?

Draw?
Come on la.
Use the calculator!!

7/8 national/ state players vs 2/3 (-60)

Avg experience 3-4 years vs 1-2 years (-40)

Mikey as your keeper (-50)

Not having your full line (-50)

Unfit defenders back after long periods of inactivity (-20)

Your best forward is your center (-10)

Your best center is your defender (-10)

What more did I miss out?
Do we even need to add on?
We are already starting at a deficit of...
Donno, use the calculator!!

Just the first two is enough to show that they are at a different level.
The frustration is.... Unreasonable.
Wake up.
Next time, use the calculator!!

The most ridiculous moment was when Guan made the best tackle by sliding in to block the shot earning him the best 2 min penalty. XD

Best Goal Celebration Award - Swinging ****
Sounds wrong...
So will just keep it to ourselves. haha...

Most Repeated Word Award - Gee

Well, I am out of ideas, I'll stop Kok'ing for now.

Hope you enjoyed it.
By the way, the biggest winner was Guan. haha..

APAC 2009: Bye Bye

Galbi and Sports Massage

So our journey has come to an end.
7 days in Korea and playing 5 matches, we were going to say good bye tomorrow.

We somehow, by fate, ended up having our first and last dinner at the same place.
Having the same food, Galbi.
And, we celebrated our arrival and departure with a birthday as well.
First was with Coach Ed;
now it was Guan's turn.
A reward for his "tackle". - Its gonna stick for ever Guan, so does #88. hahaha...

Anyway, we were planning how to surprise Guan.
There were no cakes, just a muffin with a candle.
All the effort was put into executing the prefect prank.

Hmmm...
What prank?
Since the guy kept mumbling about sports massage, why not we give him one.
The honour went to JLo, the King of Pranks! haha.
The idea was to sneak in, surprised him and present him his present
--> JLo, the transex massager! haha.

10mins to 12.
It was time.
I volunteered to penetrate the room first, faking to borrow Kok Ee's lappy.
This would keep the door open and let the others in.

I was waiting and waiting, creating conversations and was almost out of tricks.
Man, why are they taking so long?
Apparently, JLo was trying to make some boobs. haha. Failed of course.

Finally, they were in and followed up by "Best Performaces" award - JLo the massager.
We had a good laugh. haha...

Link:eh blow la Guan.
Guan: where's my present?

JLo: tolong!!
Guan: ngek ngek ngek

APAC 2009: War Zone

friends & foes: Aus>Ind>Jap>Kor>Mas>Sin

25 Mar

Wed
Cold.
Kamikaze

It's the first day of the tournament, and for the first time, APAC greets its participants with a opening ceremony!
All the countries were to line up and march in and waved to the crowed.

For Malaysia, it was a proud moment as we won even before our first match.
"Smallest Contingent Award" - 12(including the coach!)
"Best Attire Award" - Freestyle - the only team without uniform jacket/jersey and track suit.
Clap clap clap.
where are the rest?
back home.

freestyle - T & jeans. yeng!

Anyway, like all opening ceremonies, we had the boring speeches.
Well, I don't think I should even judge it cuz they were all in Korean and I don't understand a word. But thank you for the generous contribution, without it the tournament wouldn't be so grand.

Fast forward...
The opening ceremony performance.
The Koreans first entertained us with a traditional dance?
I think its a dance.
The performers dressed in Korean traditional attire and...
going in circles while traditional instruments are played.
I don't really know what they were doing.
Almost fell asleep as they kept on going for 10mins+

*yawn* so long wan...

Followed up by some cheeky Taekwondo dance.
It started of with some serious action and then as the tune turns into some quick tempo pop music, the performers got funny in their dance steps.
It was really entertaining.

don't mess with us!

Next, the last performance, was what I would call an "oooooooo" performance.
Inspired by Chris! haha..
The Koreans treated us with a string of sexy dance eye candy.
Ahem...
Details are spared, lets keep it that way before Linken starts knocking saying it sounds wrong!! haha...

chun? Girls Generation better!!

Kk, cut the crap.
Anyway, our game was the last on the schedule, 730pm.
It was our first, and against the hot favourites. Nippon.
The Japanese were regular World Championship Campaigners and was way superior than us in all department.
Not to mention it was 20 of them against 11 of us. Do the math.

Surprisingly, against such tough opponents, I felt pretty calm.
Maybe knowing that the outcome had already been written helps.
It just a matter of how hard can we make them work for it.
All out fellas!

In the end, it was a 14-1 loss.
A so so performance by the team but everyone worked their socks off.
Although we were chasing shadows must of the time.
The gap was to big. They were way too good.
Pass pass pass - open goal
Pass pass pass - shot on target
Linken was pretty helpless, eating all the shit as he predicted. haha.
And they did even played 100%. I think.
They looked pretty relax.
A warm game to them I guess.

My personal aim for the game was to work hard and get some body checks.
But what the hell, the Japanese were too quick and skillful.
They were quick in releasing, in dribbling and shooting.
By the time I got to my man, the ball was already gone.
They rarely get caught while holding the ball.

Seeing how the Japanses play really makes you wonder when will Malaysia reach that level.
10 years?
20 years?
Haiz...

26 Mar
Thur
Cold. As usual.
20 minutes

Matchday 2.
Its the day the host, Korea will entertain us.
The match was at noon, hence had time to slack.
Had breakfast.
Performed rituals.
Set.
Go!

Past experiences has shown that Korean were worthy opponents.
They are fast, strong, fit and above all, die hard!
They run and keep running until the final whistle.

Technically I don't think we were that far apart.
Tactically, well, I say they had definitely trained more than us.
We should be able to match them. I thought...

How wrong was I!!
It was all wrong from the start.
We tried to play as hard as we could,
I gave a few body checks and slashes, defending the goal with everything I could muster,
but we just kept conceding goals after goals.
Simple goals, fluke, slot goals, long shots...
What they touched just seems to turn into gold(goal)!
Every restart, the heart seems to sink deeper, we just couldn't give a response.

It was by far the worst 20 minutes of my life!
Time seems to lag down, reminding you that the period was still far from over, torturing your already sunken heart.

It was a mixture of utter relief, unbearable frustration and exploding rage when the ref ended the FIRST period.
We were down by 8 to nothing!
What the heck went wrong?!

The coaches tried to lift the spirits of the team, tell us to forget about the 1st and go in win the 2nd and 3rd period.
I think it help a little and we were a totally different team in the 2nd.
We gave the host little room to express but we ourselves only managed to squeeze in a goal.
It was a pure gift by the Koreans as they left the court empty, mistakening our corner at their end to be theirs.
I was nearest to the corner wasted no time and dispatch the pass to a charging TM who tap in the egg breaker.
It was a huge mental lift.

We fought hard in the third as well but conceded 3 as we tried for the impossible - chasing the lead.
Losing 8-0 and 8-7 is still a loss, its just a matter of goal difference.
Nothing wrong giving it a try.

In the end, it was a miserable 11-2 defeat in the hands of the Host.
To this day, there seems to be no answer for the mysterious 1st period.
Was it home advantage?
Did we let our guard down?
Were we too soft?
Or Did we rush the tempo too much?
It remains unsolved...

Still damn cold
Peak

All was forgotten, we look ahead.
Looking ahead to play with our fellow hotelmates - the Aussies.

The small Aussie squad were in good form.
Beating the host and Singapore.
Like Japan, they played really good, free flowing Floorball.
Entertaining to watch but deadly when played against.

Like Japan, the outcome seems certain for us.
It was yet again a matter pride and experience.
We'll played our very best and frustrate them as much as possible.

And we did.
We surprise the Aussies and ourselves.

We were rather discipline and executed Coach Dennis's tactics well.
Pressed high and limiting their passing opinions.
The Aussie eventually resorted to high balls which was a compliment for our hard work.

In the end, we lose but it was our best performance by far.
Everyone was discipline, stayed tight and worked hard.
It was a game with a lot of positives
The tactic worked well, we just needed more training.
Hopefully the squad will stay and the national training will continue.
With more training we'll be better.

28 Mar
Sat
Cold. I like.
Balls or Win?

3 loses in a row, are we going to bounce back?
Well, how about today?

We got slotted for the last game again at late 7 30 pm, damn sienz.
It was a game we thought we can win.
It was against Singapore.

Singapore? Sure bo?
If it was their 1st team, a trashing is certain.
Against 15 year olds, can gua...
I wasn't completely convinced like the others.
We're gonna own them? I donno wei~

They young, fast, skillful and good.
They like to attack.
And they like to ball watch.

We definitely have a chance if we don't get too complacent.

Game on.
For once Mas started off with a bang.
We led.
1-0. A contribution by the humbly me, assisted by Mamak's apprentice, JLo.

Strike two.
We double our lead with 5 minutes on the clock. TM and Guan combo.
Then came the hellish 5 minutes.

Out of no where, the Sg boys struck back.
Two in quick succession.
I was stuned.
JLo then settled some nerves with a third for Mas.

Stay strong stay strong.
Must hold the lead to the break.
But what crap!
Almost immediately after the face off, the boys equalised again.
Damn, we can't even hold them off for 20+ sec?

What the heck went wrong?

It was sluggish, uncertain, amateurish defending.
And for once, the Coach gave us a hairdryer treatment.

No more pick up the balls!!!
Win the game!!!

It was a wake up call.
We came out more focused and determined.
The lead was restored by Sam, from a generous contribution by the author.
Which was celebrated not by ball picking(wanna kena meh?) but by lifting the goal scorer.
An act which was interpreted by the ref that I scored, swapping the assist with Sam.
Sorry Sam, it doesn't matter, as long as we win! XD

It was a huge relief.
We were not ahead again.
Leading is always way better than then trailing.
No more letting our guard down!!

I thought coming to Korea, the cold weather was good.
But the food was better.
Scoring a hattrick??
Ehem.
It's the best!!

With good fortune, unintentional thievery and nice positioning, I chipped in the third.
Again supplied by Mr. Sam T. Nice one!
I was in ecstasy!!!
Man, I have been to 2 APAC outings without a single goal, and just before the game I remember mumble to someone about not scoring. When will I get a goal?
Who knew it was today?
Not one, but two? Unofficially.
Officially, it's three. Wahaha...
You cannot understand how I felt.

The third period was a bit shaky as Sg pushed on all out.
It was a do or die for them.
It was a defend or die for us as well.
In the end, we managed to suck in tying the period 2-2.

However, like our previous win against Aus in 2007, it wasn't short of nervy moments.
Coincidentally, both games ended with us down by 4 with less than 2 minutes to spare.
Presenting the awards:
"Most Nervy Moment Award";
"Best Two Minute Award"; and
"Best Tackle Award" to.......
Guan!!! XD

Flash back of the incident:
Well, as usual, the Sg boys slick movement and passing craved open our defence.
It was a clear shooting opportunity in the centre.
As I was praying on the sidelines that he would miss or Link would save it...
Introducing... Guan!!
Who miraculously/ ridiculously SLIDE in(like a footballer) and block the shot!

Link was like what the ****!!!
But in my heart I shouted: Great block! And secretly clapped from the side.

It was a clear sent off with less than 2 minutes.
We were up by 2 but anything could happen even in 30 seconds.
Bringing back the jitters in APAC 2007 where TM did an incorrect distance.

We will never know whether that shot would have went in.
We will never know whether it was a necessary offence.
It doesn't really matter, cuz we survived!
We won!
Finally, it was a historical win for Mas.
It was the first win after we started regular national training.
At least some of the hard work paid off.
It was the first time(at least in my time) we had 2 hattrickers in a game.
One official, the true hattrick scorer, Term;
the other, also official but a thief who stole one from a teammate. haha.

sui!

Adding the icing on top, the MoM...
Teng teng teng teng....
Was me.
*Kembang*
Haha...
It was a day of first's.
First goal.
First hattrick.
First MoM.
Yes!!

The win and glory aside, there was much to reflect on the game.
We won but only because we were more tactically discipline.
Offensive wise, the boys were good.
They had pace which tired us, and skills that dazzled pass us.
But we some how stopped them while they some how missed the shots.

On the other hand, we defended collectively, holding them off.
And when they lose possession, we countered swiftly and directly
Cuz we were bad with the ball too long.
Luckily enough our offences were more effective, althougth their ball watching did made our life easier.

We won.
Against a young and inexperience opponent.
They were all technically above us all, so call Malaysis Floorball Team.
None of our 15 years olds back home is half as good as them.
It would be a surprise to see any of them making into the senior squad in the future.
And it would be a surprise to see Mas struggling against the same opponent if we ever meet again. Still, there is much gap to be closed.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

29 Mar
Sun
I like the cold.
26 to 200.

Time flies.
By the time we we realised, 4 games had been played, 1 left.
The opponent?
India.

We host them just months before in KL.
2 games in 2 days.
Won both.
Totoal goals scored, 60+ I think.
So it was a sure win game, a mere formality.
The Coaches even threaten to retire if we lose.
I personally will quit too if we lose!

A clean sheet seems to be a more worthwhile objective.
We were determine to keep that.
We would love to keep their goal scored at 1.
And personally I was looking forward to something else.
Adding 26 to their goal conceded which will add up to 200.
Man, the numbers look nice. XD

We did achieve the earlier, but fail the latter by one goal.
199. Damn, just a goal short!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So, our final game sums up our Asia Pacific Floorball Championship 2009, campaign.
Winning 2 games losing 3, place us at a historical standing of overall 4th/6.
Scoring and conceding 38 in the process.

The negatives:
We are still far behind in terms of... everything.
Techniques.
Our passing and receiving especially, sucks!
We cannot string up more than 5 passes to create an attack!
Often we resort to long balls or direct shot and rebound style.

Our shots are decent but can be better, especially first times and simple volleys.
We misses a bucket load of those.

Ball control as well, we just seem to lose the ball too easily.

Tactically and positioning.
Especially those of us not playing in Singapore.
These can be gain through training, but real time game play experience is still the most effective way. And we lack those in Malaysia.
However, these will have to come after mastering the techniques, cuz without it, even we get in place, we still cannot execute what we want.

Last but not least, repeated year after year; training after training....
Fitness.
We cannot compete and maintain our standards long enough to last the game.
Often in the third, we struggle to keep up with our opponents.
Haiz, people are just plain lazy to train on their own.

and Mental.
We just couldn't get into the game fast enough.
we would always get trashed for the first two games then wake up and peak in the third.
It's way to late by then, we need to get our head straight and pump the adrenaline from the first step on the court.
How to improved on that?
I really donno.
Self-hypnotism maybe?

Positives??
Hmmm....
We actually can defend pretty well when we work our socks out and stay compact.
We just need the stamina to maintain the level of competitiveness throughout the game.
Err.... other than that, I don't recall any worthwhile mentioning plus points.
Looks like we still have A LOT of work before we can really be competitive in APAC.

APAC 2009: The Free and Easy Days

Well well, it has been almost a week now since I came back from Pyeong Taek, South Korea.
Haven't been able to blog about it cuz you know, have been away for a week, therefore a lot of catching up to do, with a lot of stuffs...

First, you have work. A few assignments stacking up with the boss sniffing behind. Pressure wei.
And another self-created burden, Borak. Penang Floorball League ended few days before we left and as usual, the not-so-efficient Malaysian drag things late, so had to rush some updates before the topics lose heat. However, I am pretty drained after booming up 4-5 posts, so now, its time to delegate. The rest are yours bros!! Good luck.

Distracted...

Back to APAC.
Hmmm... this would be a long recall.
Where should we start?
Hmmm... how about the day we left for KL.

21 Mar
Sat
Rainy
Down to KL

Chris, Sam and I decided to drop by at KL earlier a day before our flight to...
I don't know about them, but for me, it was to keep myself at ease. At least I know I am there earlier, and nearer to the destination. Plus, in case we need to, do some last minute shopping.

Anyways, since I needed a ride to the bus station, and to do some shopping, I headed down to Gurney around 12.

What to shop for? Nike Pro sweat shirt.
I heard is was good, blah blah blah...
How good I donno, maybe got influence by peer pressure?
I thought it would be a good idea to buy a body hugging shirt to wear on as we'll be battling in a cold country. A decision I was pretty proud of. haha..

So, we head on to Gurney's Nike and was confused.
There were at least 3 designs and more that 3 prices on each design...
Crap. WTH was going on.
In the end, after some extensive research and pestering, the truth was reveal...
The prices was determined by the arrival date.
If it is new, it would be pricier; if it is old, you'll get like max 70% discount.
I settled for the 70% cuz that's the only one that had my size although I preferred another design.
Ah what the crap, its covered up anyway!!

530pm
Board the bus and head down to KL.
Slept all the way.

1200am
Arrived at Pudu.
Had supper, a treat by Chris's dad.
The food was pretty good.
Super full. haha...

Tired, but quite awake.
Online la.
3.00am
Can't tahan already, off to bed.
Crap... No blanket and under the air con..

Flight day

Woke up late.
Free and easy day.
Hang out in the house, had breakfast, watch tv.

Lunch?
We had it at the famous Ipoh Chicken Rice which we gave up on during out last KL trip.
It was packed with people and like the high class restaurants, they actually get you seated and ordered through some high tech radio stuffs. Cool.

Food?
With three hardcore eaters, it was a feast.
Add here add there...
Chris even order extra curry mee.
Satisfying meal but with quite a hefty price by Pg standard, RM15 per person.

Evening?
The duo decided to check out IOI mall's Fitness First, so I hop in for a trial.
Nice place.
Nice facilities.
Free flow drinks. XD
And good work out.
Maybe should consider finding a gym when I'm back?
Maybe... haha... we shall see.

eh, am I bringing too much?

9.30pm
All of us met at KLIA.
Most of the team were already there but 2 more were missing, Hadfiz and Sjaiful.
I already knew ahead that Hadfiz was going to miss the tirp via Facebook, but the Captain missing as well?? The already fragile defense looks even more miserable.

From the KL training camp up till this moment, we have been dealt with severe blows by having our 4 key defenders pulling out.
What the heck!
What to do?
Life goes on la...
We'll just have to do with what we have. Haiz.

are they going onot wan? confused la...

planning the surprise, "ok, we slash 'dad' to 'coach' and 'golf' to 'floorball'. sui!"

11.55pm
So our journey begins, to the Land of the Morning Calm.
Boarded the plane, first impression... ooo... the stewardess not bad wei... haha...
Way way better than last years Perth. haha...
The service?
Superb!
Fully served all the way.
The food?
Delicious and full of variety.
Totally satisfied!

The Arrival

Incheon International Airport.
Finally we arrived.
Almost 7 hours in the clouds, my butt was already aching.

arriving at Incheon

where is the bus?

We were greeted by the Hotel Manager, led us to the bus
It was another long ride, 2 hours to our stay for the next 8 days... Kyonggi Tourist Hotel which was situated in Pyeong Taek.

Kyonggi Tourist Hotel

With nothing on our schedule, we left our backs, rested for awhile and headed off to explore around while looking for lunch.

Our first stop, Korean road side snack.
It was a stall covered with some sort of tent to keep the inside cozy.
The food?
It's sort of like Korean style loh bak, a variety of fried junk food to choose from.
Which is then oil bath and served.
It was pretty nice. Maybe cuz its new to us, plus hot stuffs served in cold weather. Its dope man.
My favourite?
The fried green onion and radish(I think) soup.
Superb!

Hanguk Loh Bak?

After the appetizer, we continue in search of other food.
In the end, most of us settled for Japanese food. Weird.
Me?
Undecided and paid the price of eating alone.
They serve damn slow!

Our first food scouting, the experience?
Frustrating & helpless.
The language barrier is just... huge.
TM & Chris got cold noodles instead of hot ones.
haha...

5pm
We gather again after a short rest and...
went for a jog.
To get use of the cold air kononnya.
It was a short 15 min run, quite enjoyable. No sweat.

Dinner time, Guan and Kok Ee decided we need to had some Korea food!
And so we did.
Not after some painful communication process that ended with the shop owner "calling" for help.
We order through passing the phone.

Galbi aka Korean Beef BBQ was... super nice. And they served an amazing variety of side dishes.
Some were nice.
Some were too sour.
Some were too spicy.
Some were just plain weird.
Culture shock.

galbi + side dishes = feast!

The discovery over dinner...
Coach Dennis is a super Kimchi fan, any unfinished plate will be served to his table. haha..

It was our first day in Korea and we celebrated with a birthday!
Coach Ed turning....
Donno.
The surprise?
The guys bought the cake during free hours after lunch and pakat with Dennis.
Coach Dennis was assigned the task to unlock the door so that we can penetrate the room by surprised.

Few minutes before 12, we gathered outside the door, lighting the candle and getting ready.
Ok. Set. Hit the door bell.
Surprise!!!!

!
!!
!!!
Ed: sshhh...
Us:......

Potong steam.
Apparently Dennis was already in dreamland and it was the man we wanted to surprise that surprised us. Crap...
hahaha...

Training Day

Today is our first day of Floorball action in foreign soil, our Training Session.
Pretty slacking I would say.
Jet lag kah, tired kah, the food kah, the weather kah.
I donno. Pace was pretty slow.
But it was good having training, hopefully it will get us warmed up for tomorrow's match against Japan. Sweat.

humongous!!

the battlefield

By afternoon, after training, its once again free time.
Our last one before battle commences tomorrow.

The highlight of the day was our discovery of HanYang, an English speaking Korean Traditional Food Restaurant.
It was our savior.
It was a God sent gift.
It was our food haven.
And we continue to feast there numerous times.
It was quite a distance away and slightly pricier than others, but the convenience in ordering food is just too tempting, plus the food were pretty delicious and the side dishes were more edible for tourist in my opinion.

godsend/ savior

So the free and easy days comes to and end.
By dawn, the battle begins and funny enough, our first games is against Japan, the land of the rising sun.
Tough first match wei...
As I tuck myself to bed after a full load of Korean celebrity shows, I prayed that we'll survived with a respectable scoreline...
