Been struggling with my free weight bench press since joining gym in May 2010. There seems to be a unbreakable barrier to break pass 50lbs. The fear of losing grip and having the squash by the weight was to fearsome to overcome. Plain frustrating.
Finally, enough was enough. And the breakthrough came.
Sunday, as usual, its chest day. Warmed up a little on the bike, headed over to the weight section, did a little 30lbs warm up. Felt good. OK! Lets face the fear and overcome it. Today!
Second round. 50lbs. Feeling good.
Third round. For the first time.. 70lbs. I feel the power~
Struggling but still very much manageable.
Now, I am tempted to entertain the unthinkable. Another stride over the newly marked limit?
OK!! But precautions first.
Adjusted the safety.
Added on the weights. 5lbs each.
Lied down with my eyes fixed on the bar.
Breathing hard in and out.
Focus. Focus. Focus.
And lift!
Yes. 80lbs for 8 reps!
A small deal for most but a great personal achievement for myself.
After nearly 10 months joining gym, a personal milestone set.
Now I am one more step closer to my 10 full chin up goal.
Let's keep on going!! ^^
